Cemalnur Sargut was born in 1952 in Istanbul. Sargut, a Turkish researcher, writer and mystic, is the head of the Istanbul branch of the Turkish Women’s Cultural Association (TÜRKKAD).
She has been working in the field of Sufism in Turkey and abroad for more than thirty years. She pioneered many international symposiums, ‘Dost’ Islamic Service Awards and Islamic studies under the umbrella of TÜRKKAD.She provided the establishment of the “Kenan Rifai Distinguished Professorship on Islamic Studies” chairs in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina (2009) and the Beijing University Institute of Advanced Humanities (2011) and the Kenan Rifai Sufi Studies Center at Kyoto University in 2015.
Cemalnur Sargut founded “Kerim Education Culture and Health Foundation” in 2013 in order to support studies on the field of Sufism. Later, in cooperation with Prof. Nevzat Tarhan the founding Rector of Üsküdar University, they established the Institute for Sufi Studies at Üsküdar University in 2014.
Sargut has more than forty books published in the field of Sufism. She currently works as the Advisor to the Rector of Üsküdar University and gives lectures at Üsküdar University.
