Doctor of Philology, Professor, Senior Researcher of the Department of Literatures of the Nations of the Russian Federation and the CIS, IMLI im. A. M. Gorky RAS, leading researcher of the Department of Oriental History, Institute of Oriental Studies, RAS.
Born in the Republic of Tatarstan, graduated from the philological faculty of the Yelabuga State Pedagogical University. In 1987-1990 she studied at the graduate school of Kazan State University and defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Evolution of the concept of personality in the Tatar poetry of the XIX century” (1990). In 2000 she defended her doctoral dissertation “Sufism in Tatar literature (origins, themes, genre features)”. From 1984 to 2005 she worked at the Yelabuga State University as senior lecturer, associate professor, professor, acting. Dean of the Faculty of Philology. From 2005 to the present day she is a leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2011 – Senior Researcher IMLI RAN.
The main areas of research are Turkology, the history of the literatures of the Turkic-speaking nations, the relationship between the nations of the Ottoman and Russian empires, Sufism.
A.T. Sibgatullina is the author of seven books and a large number of literary, historical articles and reviews published in Tatar, Russian, Turkish and English in collective scientific works and periodicals. She constantly takes an active part in international and all-Russian scientific conferences.
