Prof. Dr. Hasan Kamil Yılmaz

He was born in 1952 in İzmit, Karaabdülbaki. He graduated from Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute in 1974.

Between 1974-77, he worked as a Religious Culture and Morals teacher at Bakırköy Şenlikköy Secondary School, and as a teacher of vocational courses and assistant principal at Gaziosmanpaşa Imam Hatip High School.

He passed the assistantship exam that opened in November 1976 and started to work as an assistant of Sufism and History at the Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute on February 1, 1977.

He received the title of “Doctor” in Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences in May 1983. In the same year, he became an “Assistant Professor” at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology.

He went to Egypt for one year between 1986-1987 to do research and investigations in the field. He became “Associate Professor” in 1989 and “Professor” in 1996.

He has nearly thirty published books, articles published in various journals, encyclopedia articles, and many papers presented at various scientific meetings at national and international level. Some of his works and articles have been translated into English, Russian, Italian, Hungarian and Albanian and adapted to Kazakh and Azerbaijani languages.

On 30 December 2010 he was appointed Vice President of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. With the handover ceremony held on January 12, 2017, he started his duty as Istanbul Mufti.
